- Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), or known as Teflon is a synthetic fluoropolymer of tetrafluoroethylene that has numerous applications. PTFE belongs to the group of highly chemically resistant fluorothermoplastics. Due to its high molecular weight, highly chemically resistant PTFE cannot be processed by melting, but only by pressing and sintering to create semi-finished products. PTFE is the most commonly used and important fluoropolymer with the most extensive fields of application: chemical plant engineering, food and pharmaceutical technology. PTFE is preferred for sliding applications with exposure to extreme chemical stress.
