What is engineering plastics?

Engineering plastics are plastic materials with high mechanical strength and proper balance. It means that all mechanical properties, such as high tensile strength, bending strength, impact strength, and high continuous usage temperature, can exceed a certain degree. Long-term usage temperatures are over 100°C, allowing for a long operating period. It is appropriate for machinery, electronics, automotive, agricultural, or structural goods.

What is the difference between engineering plastic and speciality plastic?

Engineering plastics are a class of plastic materials that have superior mechanical and/or thermal properties to commodity plastics. In many applications, manufacturing plastics have increasingly replaced conventional engineering materials such as wood or metal. Engineering plastics, in addition to equaling or exceeding them in weight/strength and other properties, are much simpler to produce, particularly in complex forms. Speciality plastics are those that follow more stringent specifications than regular or engineering plastics. They are more costly and are used in smaller quantities.

What is titanium?

Titanium is a silver-colored metal with the symbol Ti and the atomic number 22. This is why certain brands use a lot of Ti2, or Ti22, in their products. Titanium has a very high strength-to-weight ratio, and can be up to four times stronger than steel but just half the weight, making it a very popular metal in the manufacture of aircraft and high-end sports cars.

What are the benefits of titanium?

Titanium is a light metal with the highest strength-to-weight ratio of any metal. It means you can wear a chunky 8mm diameter wedding ring without getting weighed down. Titanium rings are totally hypoallergenic, making them an excellent substitute for a wedding ring for those with a metal allergy.

How do you differentiate between glass and glass fibre?

Glass fibre is a material made up of numerous extremely fine glass fibres. As compared to glass, glass fibre has high tensile strength. The composition varies slightly, but not significantly, depending on the application, and includes a greater quantity of silica. Sizing (chemical application) is performed during the glass-to-glass fibre conversion process.

How do you handle glass fibre?

Glass fibre insulation can be handled with gloves and a dust mask. Glass fibre cloth can be handled with bare hands unless you are cutting it and making small shards that will get in your skin. Then gloves and a dust mask. Glass optical fibre is remarkably strong. - Caution, a broken fragment that gets in your eye cannot be seen by the eye doctor to remove it.
